Sets can be a "Pong" (three identical tiles), a "Chow" (a sequence of three consecutive tiles of the same suit), or a "Kong" (four identical tiles). The pair is simply two identical tiles.
Setup and Play At the beginning of the game, tiles are shuffled and built into a wall. Each player draws 13 tiles, and a dealer (chosen based on various methods depending on the region) begins the game by drawing an extra tile. Players take turns drawing tiles from the wall and discarding one tile into the center, known as the discard pile.
A player can claim a tile from the discard pile to complete a set, but this requires revealing the set to other players. Strategic decision-making is vital, as claiming a tile can give away valuable information about one's hand. The game continues in this manner until a player successfully completes a winning hand and declares "Mahjong."
